STYLE STEAL - December

This months style steal is this super cute playsuit from Boohoo, the style and sparkle make it perfect for a festive party with a dark lip. It is such a steal at only £12 down from £15 in the sale, especially as I think it looks very urban outfitters-esque. I have purchased this for a friends 18th next Saturday so I will try to post an OOTN.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments!

GET THE LOOK - Kylie Jenner's Red Leather Pants

Kylie Jenner is often seen in her red leather trousers and personally I think they are amazing. I have picked two of her outfits that feature her leather pants and created a similar look for less.

OUTFIT 1
Blazer - H&M
Heels - Boohoo
Vest - H&M
Trousers - ASOS (Mango)
I really love this outfit, its well put together, a smart way to wear such a statement piece and the colours go really well together. For the leather pants I found these ones by Mango which are actually 'coated trousers'  but have quite a leather appearance and I wanted to find a similar colour pant as apposed to a similar materiel. The Boohoo heels are almost identical to Kylies so they were a great find, I then finished off with a plain strappy top and white blazer, both from h&m' to create a similar look to kylie.

OUTFIT 2
Vest - Topshop
Bralette - Victoria's Secret
Heels - Boohoo
Trousers - ASOS (Mango)
This is definitely my favourite of the two outfits..  I really want it! Its so laid back and I love the contrast between the pretty bralette and the edgy trousers. I used the same trousers and shoes as before and then found this black lace bralette from Victoria's Secret and baggy grey vest from topshop to emulate Kylies look.

Thanks for reading! Let me know in the comments what you think of the outfits!

American Music Awards Fashion - BEST/WORST/WILDCARD

Just a quick post today (also sorry for lack of posts over the past few weeks), its my round up of the AMA's fashion, enjoy..

BEST
Nicole Richie, Alicia Silverstone, Kendall and Kylie Jenner
Black and white was definitely a big trend of the night! Nicole's dress is so crisp and the cut outs create the illusion of curves on her athletic figure. Alicia Silverstone looked very chilled and laid back which I love, its not the most exciting outfit however very well put together and understated. Kendall and Kylie in my opinion never disappoint with fashion, they both look great in monochrome but I definitely prefer Kylie's outfit as its much more edgy and interesting.

WORST
Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Lil Mama
As I find with most music events choosing the worst dressed is a lot easier! Lady Gaga, the new face of Versace, is of course wearing Versace and travelled the red carpet on a white mechanical horse. She is popping out of the dress which is just bad tailoring (its not like she cant afford it) and its overall not a nice dress, it may have looked better if it fitted her properly however even then I don't think I would be a fan! I don't really know what to say about Katy's outfit I just really don't like it, I guess it reflects her personality but she is 29 and is dressed a little like an unfashionable 8 year old. To get straight to the point Lil Mama looks like a witch, its just very weird.

WILDCARD

Emma Roberts

I say 'wildcard' as this is, with out a doubt, a love or hate outfit, I am sure  coco chanel is turning in her grave however I kind of love it! Its soo 80's which I think is very cool and it's just very fun and different (maybe so bad its good). Its obviously a very hard silhouette to pull off, however since Emma is so petite its doesn't make her look frumpy like it would to most other body types. I personally think this is an awesome outfit especially for the AMA's which is a fairly laid back fun event.

TUMBLR LOVE

I got this idea from 'fashiongirl134' who did this post, about her tumblr inspiration. Since I am also obsessed with tumblr I thought I would do a similar post...

I found it so hard to pick just a few images as I only re-blog stuff I love, so picking the 'crème de la crème' if you will was extremely difficult! Here is my tumblr if you would like to check out the rest of the images I post.

SOME ARE ART/FASHION INSPIRATION AND SOME JUST MADE ME SMILE..

left image is too cool and lily aldridge is just stunning!

'Olsen twins shrine'... I just love them.. I mean look.. (the outfit with the pink coat is perfection)

love the beachy vibes in these too especially the right which looks so cali!

random collection.. the first image I just thought was cool, the painting is stunning, TLC = I love anything 90's and lastly parent trap is the best movie!

THANK GOD TOPSHOP.

In my opinion Topshop have been seriously lagging for the majority of this year, the collection has been fairly uninspiring in my opinion and quite un original! I'm referring mainly to the denim skater skirts, cut out boots and cropped knitwear (seen on the left of the above image) that have been everywhere the past year or so, and I felt as though everything was the same just in different colours. Topshop has always been at the top of the high street food chain with really fashion forward clothing and included pieces for those who don't want to dress the same as every other girl in school. Of course they have their great basics, such as the Leigh jeans, which are always going to be popular because they are good quality and a flattering fit, but its the lack of really different more statement pieces that I felt as though were missing from their collection, something that really broke the mould of safe boring skater skirts. No doubt with their break though in the US Topshop have done incredibly well this year as far as sales are concerned but I feel as though it was a slight case of quantity of quality and sales at the sacrifice of originality. I used to go on to the topshop site and want pretty much everything but when 'UNIDAYS' recently had their 20% of a topshop promotion code I thought I would treat myself however I really struggled to find a single item that I felt as though I couldn't live with out which I believe is what topshop clothes should be like and used to be like especially considering the prices they charge.

However I'm glad to say I am starting to feel inspired again (shown top right)! If I am honest I was slightly giving up when they started to up their game in the last month or so, I would be interested to know if there has been some changes in the design team as I feel as though the collection as taken a turn for the exciting. I have selected a few of my favourites from their recent collections that I feel are more like the fashion forward pieces they used to release.

All pieces shown are still available online (excluding the metallic slip dress)

Now I'm not saying their 'less inspiring' pieces are ugly or completely unfashionable, no ones a bigger Topshop fan than me and I would happily wear everything they sell as none of it is not nice its just that they don't excite me like Topshop pieces used to and are starting to do again. I haven't done a 'worst of topshop' collection since its no fun looking a boring pieces and as I have said nothing is particularly bad per say, just not very exciting!

How do you feel about Topshop recently? Do you like my 'best' picks?

- October Wish List -

1. Onesie - One-piece (buy here)
2. Trainers - New Balance 420's (buy here)
3. Matte Top Coat Nail Polish - O.P.I (buy here)
4. Cord Smock Dress - ASOS (buy here)
Quite a small random collection of things this month but I figured there was no point padding it out with stuff I don't really want! The first item I've picked is this One Piece onesie, as it gets colder and colder and I were my current onesie more and more, I cant help but lust over this indulgent piece, its quite ridiculous to spend so much on a single piece that will rarely leave my house but its soo cool and I love the navy and red together! Sticking with the red and comfy theme we move on to these beautiful new balance 420's, after thinking I would like some new balance for a while it wasn't until I saw a similar pair to this in the flesh in UO that I really fell in love. I have done extensive research into what pair of new balance I would like an after narrowing it down to my few favourites I have decided these are the ones I really want! A beauty want this month is a matte top coat from O.P.I, I think the effect of matte nails is so modern and cool and would look amazing on black or navy polish. Lastly a truly fashion want is this stunning cord smock dress by ASOS, I don't know what it is about smock dresses that I love so much (other than the fact they hide a multitude of sins) they are just cute and quaint and that plus cord is a winner for me!

OOTD 5.10.13

A few weeks back I went to have another look at The University of Manchester (see the ootd for the first open day here) as I really loved it last time and wanted to discuss with the lecturer some details about specific fashion courses that they offer.

My outfit..

Dress - Malaysia
Cardigan - H&M (buy here)
Denim Jacket - Vintage
All black converse (buy here)
Celine Replica (buy here)

This dress was from a little market style shop called 'mnb' in Malaysia which I bought while I was on a sports tour to Singapore and Malaysia this summer, it was 25 Malaysian Ringgit which is roughly £5! so I was chuffed when I found it. The print is so vibrant and interesting, its a little out of my comfort zone which is kind of what makes me love it even more. Since the dress is such a statement I paired it with a basic, mid wash, vintage denim jacket and a plain white cardigan underneath for warmth but also to tie in with white collar on the dress. I then added my all black high top converse which I love but in retrospect look a little light against my super opaque tights so in future I would wear either more sheer tights or different shoes. Lastly I added my beautiful black Celine Micro Luggage Tote.. replica ;) to finish off the outfit with a sophisticated smart edge.

Please ignore the bags under my eyes!

OOTD - 29.09.13

Bowler hat - h&m (buy here)
Tartan Dress - boohoo (buy here)
Fluro bag - eBay (buy here)
Chelsea shoes - topshop

I really love the colour palette of this outfit, its quite a wintery outfit in a way but I think its made warmer with this fluro yellow satchel, (blog post here),  which offers a really cool contrast and pop of colour to an other wise fairly classic outfit. You tend to see tartan coming back in to fashion, for winter, every year, but I have a feeling its going to be a lot more mainstream this A/W, this dress was part of my September wish list (blog post here) and I couldn't resist treating myself and actually getting it. I'm a big fan of green/navy based tartan as apposed to the classic red based tartan, which I also love but I think can sometimes be a little overpowering. To tie in with the deep navy/black in the dress I added a black bowler hat, black tights and black Chelsea shoes, I have had these shoes for a few years now and have recently rediscovered my love for them as we come into the cooler months. If I can I like to be a little different with what I wear hence going for Chelsea shoes as apposed to the common Chelsea boots, which although lovely I feel like everyone has.

- September Wish List -

1. Boohoo tartan dress (buy here)
2. Topshop handbag (buy here)
3. Topshop pleather shorts (buy here)
4. Chicwish jumper (buy here)
5. Topshop leigh jeans (buy here)
Firstly I would like to apologise for the majority being Topshop, I ,like many, am guilty of loving topshop too much even with the sometimes unreasonable prices. The first topshop piece is a replacement pair of black leigh jeans, I got a pair around 3/4 years ago and I have worn them so much that they are now more grey than black so I think its time to get a new pair as I know I will wear them a lot now its staring to get colder. Continuing with topshop, the next thing I'm lusting over is this pale blue tote, I love that its so simple but the super pretty colour makes it such a great piece. The last topshop item is this pair of black lazer cut pleather shorts, these are such a cool piece and would look really great with a contrasting pretty jumper like the Chicwish one also on my wish list. I recently discovered Chicwish through watching a sunbeamjess video on youtube where she had picked up a few pieces, I instantly checked out the website because I love finding online shops that I didn't know about, as I try not to wear all high street stuff that everybody has, its such a good site and I literally love everything! Lastly I picked out this tartan dress from boohoo, its bang on trend but in a quite subtle way due to the navy and green pattern as apposed to the classic red pattern which can be a little out there and more difficult to style in terms of the colour scheme.

I hope you like my picks,

Talking Trends - "Any colour ... so long as its PINK"

According to this months British Vogue, pink is the colour of the season, there is a lovely 12 page spread featuring 'model of the year', Cara Delevingne looking stunning in various pink designer ensembles, with pieces by Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. I have put together a collection of my favourite pink pieces from the high-street and online to make the trend more affordable and accessible to those of us who can only dream of designer labels.

1. Topshop dress (buy here)
This is such an adorable dress, actually quite designer looking in my opinion, its perfect for a wedding or formal party. Style it with white pumps like these, and a cropped white blazer like this (to show off your waist) then add a simple silver necklace for a pretty, classy look.

2. Topshop lipstick in macaroon (buy here)
If you don't want to make quite such a statement but still have a subtle hint of the trend, a pink lip is a great way to go. Wear with a super minimal make up look and simple outfit to really make the lip pop.

3. EBay sun jellies in cherry (buy here)
I was loving my pair of navy jellies this summer, and I think this pink pair are super cute! Pray for some sunshine and wear with some denim shorts like these and a plain white cropped tee for a Kylie Jenner style look, or if you live in England like me and its starting to get cold trade out the shorts for mom jeans like these and add some white ankle socks.

4.Nasty gal dress (buy here)
I'm obsessed with this dress its so stunning! Its perfect for a evening out on holiday with some pretty metallic sandals like these and a light cardigan if it gets chilly.

5.American Apparel hair bow (buy here)
This little bow is so cute and is another way to wear the trend subtly, I feel like the colour is the cornflower blue of pinks! It would look really pretty against light blonde hair with a girly white dress like this and the look could be toughened up with some Jeffery Campbell's like these.

6. Topshop mom jeans (buy here)
Another way to wear the pink trend is by mixing it with another trend such as mom jeans, this baby pink pair from topshop would look awesome with a baseball style tee like this (which I would buy 1/2 sizes too big then tuck in the jeans for a slouchy look) and some white supergas.

7. River island stilettos (buy here)
Im not sure if I would be daring enough to wear these however I do think they a very cool and very kardashian/jenner-esque. Since they are such statement I would go with a dressed down approach to styling them with some boyfriend style jeans like these and a white tee.

hope you like my picks do let me know what you think in the comments!

MTV Video Music Awards 2013

I woke up this morning ready to look through all the amazing dresses from the MTV VMA's and right a blog post about my favourites. Well it was hard enough to find anything I even liked! I was so underwhelmed by all the outfits however I did manage to find one I liked...

Naya Rivera in vintage Paco Rabanne
For a start I just love Naya Rivera. Secondly I love her even more for going out with big sean and now I love her even more for saving the red carpet from being a disaster. This black floor length gown fits her like a glove and the cut-outs (a big trend from last season) make the dress much more sexy, in turn making it much more Naya! I like the very minimal accessories and smoky eye as they complete the whole look making it very put together and polished.

Naya and Big Sean at VMA's and Teen Chocie Awards
I was also a massive fan of her teen choice award outfit especially the pop of colour with the shoes!

Monthly Style Steal - AUGUST

Missguided dress - buy here (and more photos)
Augusts' Style Steal is this super cute girly dress from missguided.co.uk. I have been loving this style of dress at the moment because I think the shapeless, boxy cut is balanced out by the super short length. At £19.99 I think its a pretty good deal especially with their current 10% off promotion,  as this kind of thing in Topshop would be nearing the £50 mark. For a casual look add a slouchy oversized cardigan or jumper like this one and wear with converse like these. Or dress it up with healed boots like these and and a necklace like this (what a long pendant chain will do is weigh down the dress bringing it into your body so that it is more flattering).

V FESTIVAL 2013

This past weekend I headed to Weston park in Stafford for V festival 2013! I travelled down on Friday with a big group of friends to set up camp before the music began on Saturday. I got to see lots of my favourite artists as well as some bands that I only knew a few songs but enjoyed their performance way more than I expected.

High lights have got to be Calvin Harris and Kendrick Lamar as well as The Script who although are not one of my favourite bands put on an incredible performance and really worked the crowd. In the middle of their set Danny asked the crowd if anyone had an idiot ex boyfriend and then called him live on stage on the girls phone , sang 'nothing' (a break up song) and proceeded to get the whole crowd to shout 'good bye asshole to him' .. what a legend .. it was hilarious. (videos of it that I found on YouTube below)

I also loved the vaccines, scouting for girls and many others. Beyoncé was actually slightly disappointing because she was 20 minutes late,I was very squished in the crowd and I didn't love her set list however it was still amazing to see her and a lot of her performance was great.

It was such an amazing weekend and I have definitely got the festival buzz!

Monthly Style Steal - JULY

eBay boots - buy here (and more photos)
July's style steal is this pair of Jeffrey Campbell-esque chunky platform boots from eBay.  At less than £20 they are a fraction of the price of Jeffrey Campbell's and give the same kind of impact and style without making such a massive investment. Team them with a dress like this one for a 90's inspired look or this one for a girly contrast. They would also look great with light wash mom jeans like these and a plain white tee for a casual look.

I have already ordered my pair so keep your eyes open for and ootd coming soon!

Socks & Sandals

My opinion and how I style

The classic 'socks and sandals' combination is often mocked and a lot of the time rightly so! It is one of those things that is not really socially acceptable for anyone above the age of 5. However recently I think a fashionable approach has been taken, probably as a result of the geek chic trend that we have been seeing for a few years now and it has even been appearing on the catwalk...
A selection of photos that I think represent the best of socks and sandals

Don't get me wrong these kind of socks and sandals have never and will never look good...

images from http://www.sandalandsoxer.co.uk/home.htm.. you can waste some time on there

How I style

I have taken it upon myself to try and make it work so here is how I style socks and sandals in a way that is hopefully socially acceptable...

By using healed sandals I think you're instantly moving away from the stereo typical middle-aged man, which is a great start. I chose this nude pair from Asos and teamed them with some grey knee high socks from Topshop, I think the colours really complement each other and give a modern look. All I have teamed with my socks and sandals combo is this navy and white dress by Mina uk, I don't think you need any further accessories as the dress, socks and sandals are already making a quite a statement.

The Fashion Tag

1. How would you describe your style?
I would say it depends on how I feel that day, sometimes I will go super girly with a dress, frilly socks and t-bar shoes, other days I will be all in black with chunky boots. I also love mixing pretty girly pieces with grungy, alternative pieces. My style is always evolving but if in doubt I will go with something super classic like jeans, a white t-shirt and a blazer. Also as much as I like to be on trend, I don't get to hung up on it and often wont spend much on a piece I consider to be on trend because I know I may go off it.

2. What are you wardrobe staples?

American Apparel Disco Pants in Black
- Oversized or baggy t-shirts ( worn with leggings for a relaxed look or tucked into high waisted skirts and trousers, like my disco pants, for more of a put together look )

- A pair of classic mid/dark wash blue skinny jeans (in summer rolled to ankle grazers with sandals and in winter with scrunched up socks and ankle boots)

- white plimsolls (I love wearing these with my disco pants because the old dirty plimsolls are a great contrast to the super shiny, attention grabbing trousers)

3. Most expensive item in your closet?

Some black Topshop boots which were around the £70/£80 mark and also my black AA disco pants which were £75

4. Most wanted item?
I have wanted a 13" fluro yellow satchel by the Cambridge satchel company for over a year but I can't quite make the £125 leap!
Cambridge Satchel company 13" Fluro Yellow Satchel
A Zac Posen dress fitting
5. Favourite designer?
I'm currently loving Zac Posen, his red carpet dresses are so old Hollywood glamour and make whoever is wearing them look incredible.

6. How much do you spend on clothes?
On average h&m to Topshop prices but I love spending less obviously (in places like primark and boohoo) and don't mind spending more on investment pieces form shops like American Apparel and Urban outfitters.

7. What are your favourite places to shop?
Number one has got to be topshop purely because I would happily wear about 95% of the shop. Other high street stores I like are h&m and zara. American apparel for investment basics (emphasis on the word investment - cant afford to shop there for every day bits!) I also love vintage clothing but only have a few bits because there are no good vintage shops near me, I am however planning a London trip to Brick lane, Spitalfields, Camden etc. I also love online shops like Yayer, Monki and Nasty Gal.

Davidoff - Cool Water
8. Favourite fragrance?
I'm not a major perfume person, I only have three and they were all gifts but my favourite of the three is Davidoff cool water.

9. Whats your favourite way to do your hair?
Down with beach style waves or in a messy high ponytail with a 90's style scrunchie!

10. What is your go-to outfit when you have no idea what to wear?
Oversized (like mens large oversized!) t-shirt tucked into black AA disco pants with white plimsolls.

11. One fashion trend you wish would come back or stay
I love the beanie trend!! Also high waisted skirts/trousers/shorts, I remember when I was younger I wouldn't dare wear anything on my waist is was all about the low rise but now I have gone high waisted I can never go back its the most flattering cut on me by far.

12. Show us your most prize possession in your wardrobe.
My black topshop boots, I am so obsessed with them, they look amazing with every outfit and can instantly dress up an otherwise boring look.

My rather roughed up (well loved!) black topshop boots and an official photo
